It is about three million people were then affected and the government of Haiti reported that 300,000 had been injured and 1, 000, 000 people become homeless. However, the United States Agency for International Development together with other international agencies noted an estimation of death toll between 46, 000 to 92, 000 with 220, 000 injured and around 1.5 million to 1.8 million is homeless. However, Haiti’s government gave an approximate 30, 000 commercial buildings collapsed and 25, 000 residences were damaged or destroyed.
Some places which received major damage are Jacmel, Port-au-Prince and other parts of settlements region. Significant landmark structures were notably damaged and this includes the Port-au- Price Cathedral, Presidential Palace and National Assembly building.
Many private and civic organizations give their assistance along with various countries who extend their humanitarian ai, funds, foods, clothing and other basic necessities. Despite of the great help from many people around the world, it was a difficult scenario for the Haiti government during the rescue operation because of sea and land facilities, electrical connections and communication systems were damaged by the earthquake.
